•
Vacancy Decontrol: if you
choose to move to a new home you will have to pay whatever a new
landlord wants to charge you, and you may have to bargain.
• Above Guideline Rent Increases:
even if you stay in your home, you will have to pay
more rent for that new couch in the lobby or for repairs to the
balcony that wasn’t maintained.
• Demolitions, Conversions and Evections:
if after all the above your landlord wants to demolish
your building or convert it to a condominium, there’s little
the City can do to prevent it, at least for now.

My
Commitment to Tenants
As your City Councillor, and as the Chair of the
City’s Tenant Defense Sub-Committee, I have introduced a number
of initiatives to combat the effects of the Ontario Tenant Protections
Act over the past 3 years. Toronto’s tenants have my unqualified
commitment to lead the fight for rent freezes, rent roll backs and
the restoration of real rent control. I remain committed to getting
Toronto’s tenants progressive and fair legislation from Queen’s
Park.
